Oratory of San Lorenzo

Famous for the stolen "Nativity" by Caravaggio and the sublime, mature stuccos by Giacomo Serpotta.

Its fame is inextricably linked to a painful event: the 1969 theft of Caravaggio's "Nativity" now replaced by a reproduction.
Founded in 1569 by a Franciscan confraternity dedicated to burying the poor of the Kalsa district, this oratory houses some of Giacomo Serpotta's stucco creations that are considered among his most sublime and mature, masterfully interacting with the surrounding space.
